Tobramycin is an antibiotic that is injected directly into a large muscle or placed into an IV drip to treat severe infection. This medication is prescribed to treat many types of severe infections all over the body, including in the urinary tract, lungs, skin and bones.
Patients should stay in the hospital while on this medication so that doctors can carefully observe them. This medication can be toxic to the kidneys as well as to the nerves associated with hearing. Patients may suffer irreversible kidney disease or hearing loss while on the medication. Patients with kidney problems are more prone to these problems than other patients.
