Tizanidine

Patients who have multiple sclerosis or who suffer a stroke, brain injury or spinal injury may take tizanidine to help control symptoms. This medication relieves muscle spasms and increases muscle tone in these patients. It relaxes muscles by slowing down action in the brain and nervous system.

Side Effects/Warnings

This medication comes in both tablet and capsule form, but the two forms are not interchangeable. Patients should not switch forms of medication without consulting their doctors because of the risk of overdose or underdose.

Some foods can interact negatively with this medication. Doctors who prescribe this medication should be aware of food interactions and explain dietary restrictions to patients.
