Testosterone gel is prescribed to men who have low levels of testosterone. It may also be prescribed to biological females who are undergoing gender transition to raise their testosterone levels. This medication is applied to the skin in order to raise testosterone levels. Men with low testosterone levels may have decreased sex drive, depression, fatigue and brittle bones.
Side Effects/Warnings
Patients who use testosterone gel must be careful not to allow the gel to touch others, especially women or children. If women or children come in contact with the gel, they may develop male secondary sex characteristics or may exhibit increased aggressiveness or sex drive. To reduce the risk of this happening, men should wash their hands after applying the gel and should wash skin that has been in contact with the gel before having skin-to-skin contact with any other person.
