Tenofovir
Tenofovir is one of several drugs that might be prescribed to treat HIV. This drug helps slow the HIV virus’ spread throughout the body so that the patient is less likely to be acutely ill and can live a longer and healthier life. The drug does not prevent or treat HIV-related infections and illnesses.
Side Effects/Warnings
Although Tenofovir can help slow the spread of the HIV virus throughout the body, it doesn’t stop the virus from spreading from person to person. HIV positive people should practice safe sex and should be careful not to share infected needles in order to minimize the chances of spreading the disease to partners.
This medication can cause liver damage and lactic acidosis. Tell your doctor as soon as possible if you have stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, brown urine, jaundice or extreme fatigue.
