Sunitinib
Patients who have tumors in their stomach or their esophagus may be prescribed Sunitinib. This chemotherapy medication is usually used to treat tumors in people who do not respond to other types of chemotherapeutic drugs and may also be used for advanced renal or pancreatic cancer treatment. Sunitinib works by blocking proteins that tell cancer cells to multiply so that cancer stops spreading.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication can cause liver damage. Patients who have a history of liver disease are at greater risk than patients who have healthy livers. Contact your doctor immediately if you have symptoms of liver disease such as:
- Jaundice
- Brown urine
- Tarry, black stools
- Nausea and vomiting
- Severe stomach pain
