Salmeterol

Salmeterol is an asthma medication that is used to help people with asthma breathe more easily. It may also be prescribed for people with COPD. This medication helps relax air passages and open airways in the lungs in order to help people breathe during an asthma attack or other illness that causes shortness of breath.

Side Effects/Warnings

Some patients have more severe asthma attacks following the use of this medication. Asthma attacks after using this medication can be fatal. Thus, patients should not take this medication unless they have been unable to control their asthma via other medications. This medication must be prescribed with another asthma medication in order to minimize the risk of a fatal asthma medication; it should never be taken by itself.
