Ritonavir inhibits the HIV virus’ ability to replicate in the body.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication does not stop HIV from spreading from person to person. If you are worried about infecting others, practice safe sexual habits such as wearing a condom to prevent sexual transmission of the virus. You should also refrain from sharing IV needles with other people in order to minimize the risk of infection.
Do not take this medication if you are taking statins to control cholesterol levels. Interactions between these two types of drugs can cause muscle injury as well as irreversible and sometimes fatal kidney damage.
