Ribavirin (Oral)

Adults may take an oral version of Ribavirin in order to combat the spread of the Hepatitis C virus. This medication stops the virus from spreading throughout the body. It also may help reverse liver damage or cure the patient of the virus, although it’s not clear yet whether or not it does.

Side Effects/Warnings

Patients who have heart problems are at risk of having a heart attack as a result of anemia while on this medication. Patients who already have any type of anemia are at greater risk of developing anemia and/or heart problems as a result of taking Ribavirin. Call 911 or go to the emergency room if you have symptoms of anemia while on this medication such as extreme fatigue, pale skin, lightheadness, pale skin or fast heartbeat.
