Children who have Hepatitis C may have to take Ribavirin. Ribavirin inhibits the virus’ ability to replicate itself so that the virus doesn’t continue to spread throughout the body. The medication is known only to stop the spread of the disease in the body; doctors aren’t sure yet whether it actually cures the disease or if it prevents it from spreading to other people.
Side Effects/Warnings
The inhaled version of the medication is only approved for use in children; adults should not take this version of the medication. However, children who take it may have breathing difficulties or sudden respiratory distress. Infants are at particular risk and should be monitored carefully for signs of breathing problems while on the medication.
