Patients who have an irregular heartbeat might take quinidine. Quinidine helps your heart become resistant to abnormal activity in order to regulate heartbeat. Patients who are suffering from malaria may also take this medication in order to cure themselves of this disease. The medication comes in tablet form; tablets should be swallowed whole three to four times per day.
Side Effects/Warnings
Taking quinidine can increase the risk of a fatal heart attack, especially in patients who have already had a heart attack. This medication should only be used to treat life-threatening arrhythmias, and patients who have a history of heart disease may want to avoid this medication.
