Propranolol (Oral)

Propranolol is a beta blocker medication. This medication is used to treat a variety of heart related conditions, such as high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, fast heart rate and other heart disease. It can also be used to treat certain glandular tumors and some types of tremors. It can be given to heart attack patients to help protect them from a second heart attack.

Side Effects/Warnings

It is dangerous to suddenly stop taking this medication. Patients who abruptly withdraw from the medication may have severe chest pain or a sudden heart attack. Patients should taper off this medication and limit physical activity while they are tapering to decrease the chances of having a heart attack while withdrawing from the medication.
