Patients who have been exposed to malaria may be prescribed primaquine phosphate along with another medication to help eradicate the disease from their systems. This medication is taken orally once a day for 14 days in order to kill the organisms that cause the disease. It can also be used to treat a fungal lung disease.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication interacts with certain chemotherapy medications as well as with antibiotic medications. You cannot take it if you are on these medications. You also should not take it if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding, as it can affect your baby.
This medication can cause liver problems. Seek medical treatment if you experience jaundice, brown urine, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, fatigue or brown urine.
