Polymixin B (Parenteral)

Polymixin B is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye. It kills bacteria while another medication prescribed along with it stops the bacteria from growing. The two medications work together to resolve bacterial eye infections. The medication is taken by putting drops into the eyes.

Side Effects/Warnings

This medication should not be used repeatedly or for long periods of time. Overuse of the medication can result in other infections such as fungal infections that are harder to treat. It can also cause bacteria to become resistant to treatment. However, the medication should be used for the full amount of time prescribed. Stopping the medication too soon can cause infection to return.
