Phenytoin
Phenytoin is an anticonvulsant medication. It prevents certain types of seizures, especially seizures that may occur during or after surgery, by decreasing the amount of electrical activity in the brain.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication cannot be infused too quickly when injected in the hospital. If it is infused at too quickly a rate, patients are likely to suffer cardiac arrhythmias and extremely low blood pressure. All patients should be connected to heart monitors whlle the medication is being infused in order to ensure that they are not having these problems, as they can occur even if infusion happens at a safe rate
