Perflutren Microsphere

Patients who are having an EKG to help their doctors diagnose heart conditions may receive an injection of perflutren microsphere just before they have their examination. This medication makes it easier for doctors to detect heart abnormalities and to clarify the results of earlier and more ambiguous examinations.

Side Effects/Warnings

This medication can cause heart and lung problems that can sometimes be fatal. Patients who have a history of heart disease or lung disease are at greater risk of this side effect. Tell your doctor about any type of heart problems you may have had in the past such as heart failure or past heart attacks. He or she also needs to know about emphysema, COPD, asthma or any other lung conditions in order to determine whether this medication is safe to prescribe.
