Pemoline (US Market withdrawal Oct 2005)
Pemoline is a central nervous system stimulant that used to be prescribed for ADHD. This medication helps patients sit still and focus on tasks by speeding up the central nervous system. It is currently unavailable in the United States due to health risks; patients who are on this medication should switch to a different medication.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication can be extremely toxic to the liver. In a small number of patients, the medication causes liver failure. Patients on this medication who have jaundice, severe stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, extreme fatigue, brown urine or tarry black stools need immediate medical attention.
