Oxymorphone (Extended Release)
Oxymorphone is a narcotic drug that is used to treat chronic pain in patients who are no longer responding to less strong narcotic medications. It is taken orally once a day so that the drug can be infused into the bloodstream throughout the day. It works by blocking nerve impulses so that the patient does not feel pain.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication can be physically and psychologically addictive, as it is a narcotic medication. Patients who have had problems with narcotic drug abuse in the past are at greater risk of developing a drug problem as a result of taking this medication, but any patient can become addicted. Do not change your dose of the medication or take the medication more often than instructed without consulting your doctor first. You also should not suddenly stop taking the medication, as that can cause serious illnesses and possibly be fatal.
