Norethindrone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol(Oral Postmenopausal Replacement)
When women go through menopause, their estrogen level often drops. They may take norethindrone acetate in order to replace estrogen that they lost via menopause. This medication increases estrogen levels and reduces symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and mood swings.
Side Effects/Warnings
Women on this medication have a greater than average risk of heart attack or stroke, especially if they smoke or have a family history of heart disease. Women should quit smoking and get regular heart checkups while on this medication. This medication can also increase the risk of breast cancer, and women over the age of 65 may have memory loss problems or dementia if they take this medication.
