Mycophenolate mofetil is used to suppress the immune system following an organ transplant so that the body doesn’t reject the new organ. This medication is taken every 12 hours and must be taken on an empty stomach.
Side Effects/Warnings
Taking this medication can cause serious infections because your immune system is compromised. If you have a fever, chills, nausea or vomiting, see your doctor right away. You may need additional medication to keep infections under control. You may also develop lymphoma, or cancer of the lymph nodes, as a result of taking mycophenolate mofetil.
Do not take this medication if you are pregnant. Mycophenolate causes serious birth defects as well as increases your risk of a miscarriage during the first trimester.
