Molindone is an anti-psychotic medication. People with schizophrenia may take this medication in order to eliminate delusions and hallucinations. This medication can also help people who experience severe manias as a result of bipolar disorder. It works by adjusting the brain chemicals to eliminate abnormal brain activity.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication should not be prescribed to elderly people who are suffering from psychotic dementia. Elderly people who take this drug are more likely to have a fatal heart attack or bout of pneumonia than elderly people who do not take the drug.
Suddenly ceasing to take this drug can cause negative side effects in addition to a return of symptoms. Patients who don’t want to take Molindone anymore should talk to their doctors about the best way to gradually taper off it.
