Methyltestosterone/Esterified Estrogens (Oral)
Methyltestosterone is often combined with esterified estrogen to boost women’s testosterone levels without causing them to develop male secondary sex characteristics. This medication is often prescribed to post-menopausal women in order to boost both their testosterone and estrogen levels so that they can maintain the hormonal balance they had prior to menopause. This medication may also be given to women with low sex drive to help increase their feelings of sexual desire.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication increases the risk that a woman will have a heart attack or stroke, especially if she is a heavy smoker. Women should quit smoking prior to taking this medication in order to lower their risk. The medication also increases the risk of breast cancer and of senile dementia and memory problems.
