Methyltestosterone is often combined with esterified estrogen to boost women’s testosterone levels without causing them to develop male secondary sex characteristics. This medication is often prescribed to post-menopausal women in order to boost both their testosterone and estrogen levels so that they can maintain the hormonal balance they had prior to menopause. This medication may also be given to women with low sex drive to help increase their feelings of sexual desire.

This medication increases the risk that a woman will have a heart attack or stroke, especially if she is a heavy smoker.
