Methotrexate

Methotrexate is an immune system inhibitor that is used to treat certain types of cancer, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. This drug stops the immune system from malfunctioning and contributing to these diseases.

Side Effects/Warnings

This medication can cause a severe toxic reaction in some patients. This reaction causes liver and kidney damage. Patients should only take this drug while under the immediate supervision of a doctor who is familiar with its effects and with kidney and liver disease. The medication should only be prescribed for patients who have tried other medications for their conditions without success. Patients who have taken NSAIDs in the recent past should not take this medication, as doing so increases the risk of kidney failure.
