Liotrix

Liotrix is a synthetic thyroid hormone. This medication is prescribed for patients who suffer from lethargy and weight gain as a result of low thyroid function. Patients take this medication orally once a day, usually before the first meal of the day. This medication should be taken at the same time each day.

Side Effects/Warnings

This medication should not be given to patients who do not have low thyroid levels. Taking this medication unnecessarily causes symptoms of thyroid toxicity such as chest pain and difficulty breathing. This medication should not be used to treat obesity in patients with normal thyroid function and should not be taken with weight loss pills or other amphetamines, as doing so can be fatal.
