Lincomycin

Lincomycin is a strong antibiotic that is used to combat infections in people who are allergic to penicillin. This medication kills bacteria that are responsible for infections in various areas of the body.

Side Effects/Warnings

This medication can cause new infections in the intestines. These infections generally cause diarrhea. In some cases, this medication can cause a serious infection called colitis. Colitis requires emergency medical attention.

Lincomycin should not be used for minor infections because of the risk of colitis. This medication should be reserved for serious infections that don’t respond to less aggressive treatment. It also should not be used to treat nonbacterial infections, as it is not effective and can lead to bacteria resistance.
