Lenalidomide is used to treat certain conditions related to the development of cells in the bone marrow. This medication may be used along with another medication to treat cancer of the bone marrow. It also is used to treat a type of myelodysplastic syndrome in which the bone marrows produce misshapen blood cells. THis medication kills abnormal blood cells and stimulates production of healthy cells.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication causes severe birth defects. In order to reduce the risk that a woman or her partner will use this medication while trying to become pregnant, patients must register with a special program called RevAssist and get their prescription from a doctor who participates in this program. Women are required to use two forms of birth control for two weeks before the treatment begins and for four weeks after it ends.
