Patients who have breast cancer that doesn’t respond to other medication or who are unable to take other types of medication to control breast cancer might take ixabepilone. This medication is injected into the veins once every three weeks. It takes three hours to finish this type of chemotherapy treatment.
Side Effects/Warnings
Patients who have liver disease cannot take this medication. Ixabepilone can cause severe or fatal liver damage in these patients. Patients should be monitored regularly for the onset of liver disease while on this medication and should call their doctors if they have symptoms of this disease such as jaundice, fatigue, loss of appetite, stomach pain, brown urine or nausea and vomiting.
