Iodixanol

Patients may receive an iodixanol injection prior to having a CT scan of the brain or other part of the body. This medication contains iodine, which absorbs x-rays. This provides extra contrast so that doctors can more easily see tumors or other abnormalities when they look at the scan.

Side Effects/Warnings

This medication can cause dehydration. It’s important to drink a lot of fluids both before and after receiving an iodixanol injection so that you don’t suffer from this effect. Dehydration can lead to kidney damage.

Patients who have a history of hay fever or allergies are more likely to have an allergic reaction to this drug than the general population.

You should not take this drug if you have any kind of infection. Children who have not eaten recently or who are on stool softeners should not take this drug.
