Interferons(alpha)

Interferons are injected in order to kill tumor cells. These medications help boost the immune system and kill some types of cancer. They are often used to treat leukemia and Kaposi sarcoma as well as to treat viral infections such as chronic hepatitis.

Side Effects/Warnings

Patients who have autoimmune or infectious disorders may find their condition getting worse while they are on this medication. They may suffer from severe infections as a result of taking the medication. Similarly, patients who are depressed may experience a more severe depression and possibly have suicidal thoughts or feelings as a result of taking this medication. Patients should have regular physical checkups and mental health evaluations while they are on this medication.
