Imipiramine Hydrochloride

Imipramine hydrochloride is sometimes prescribed for depression. This medication changes the balance of brain chemicals in order to eliminate feelings of depression, anger and sadness and to promote feelings of calmness and wellbeing. This medication can also be used to help children stop wetting the bed.

Side Effects/Warnings

Antidepressant medications can cause some patients to become suicidal. Extreme depression, obsession with death and desire to harm oneself are symptoms of suicidal ideation. This side effect is more likely in young people, but everybody on this medication should be monitored for suicide risk so that emergency interventions can be given if a patient becomes in danger of hurting him or herself.
