Hydroxychloroquine
Patients who have been exposed to malaria may take hydroxychloroquine to cure themselves of the illness; it can also be taken as a preventative measure before visiting an area of the world that is prone to malaria. This medication can also be used to treat autoimmune system disorders such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication can cause nausea; take it with food or milk in order to avoid this side effect.
Some patients may experience permanent vision loss as a result of taking this medication. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any problems with your vision, such as blurred vision, difficulty seeing parts of letters while reading, light flashes or spots in front of your eyes, or blurred distance vision.
