Foscarnet
Foscarnet is an anti-viral drug that is used to treat cytomegalovirus infections in patients who have compromised immune systems. It is often used to help patients who are suffering from AIDS. This medication is added to an IV drip and infused into the patient’s veins for three hours a day.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication is toxic to the kidneys. Patients who are on this medication must get regular monitoring of their kidney function so that kidney problems can be caught early. You should also tell your doctor immediately if you have lower back pain and difficulty urinating.
Some patients may have seizures while on this medication due to problems with their electrolyte balance.
