Formoterol fumarate is an inhalant used to help people with asthma or COPD open their airways and reduce wheezing, shortness of breath and other breathing difficulties related to these diseases. It is sprayed into the mouth and inhaled into the lungs twice a day or before exercise.
Side Effects/Warnings
Patients who use formoterol fumarate are more likely to have severe asthma attacks that require hospitalization than patients who do not use this medication. For this reason, this medication should not be used by itself; it should be taken only with another prescription asthma medication. It also should only be used for as long as necessary to control asthma. Patients who have frequent, severe attacks should not use this medication.
