Fluvoxamine is an antidepressant medication that is prescribed to people who are suffering from severe, debilitating depression, suicidal thoughts and feelings or chronic depression. It works by adjusting the chemical levels in the brain so that patients feel more mentally balanced. This medication is taken orally every day and may take several weeks to work.
Side Effects/Warnings
There is an increased risk of suicidal thoughts, feelings and behaviors in some patients while on this medication, especially during the first few weeks of taking it. Children, adolescents, and young adults up to the age of 24 are at particular risk of suicidal thoughts and self-harm while on this drug.
This medication causes physical changes in the brain; as a result, patients may experience serious illnesses along with a return to psychiatric symptoms if they suddenly stop taking the drug. Take the medication at the same time every day. If you want to stop or switch medications, gradually stop taking this medication rather than abruptly stopping its use.
