Flecainide
Flecainide is prescribed to patients with certain types of irregular heartbeats. This medication slows electrical signals to the heart. This helps regulate the heartbeat so that it beats more steadily.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication is meant only for patients with life-threatening irregular heartbeats. Patients who have other heart irregularities should not take this medication because the risk of heart attack outweighs any benefit to the medication.
Patients who have already had a heart attack should not take this medication. Patients with a history of heart attack are more likely to have a fatal second heart attack within two years if they take this medication.
People who have atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter should not take this medication. This medication can cause irregular heartbeats in people with these conditions.
