Ethinyl Estradiol/Norgestrel (Oral)
Norgestrel is often prescribed to women who don’t want to get pregnant but want to engage in sexual activity. This birth control pill is taken once a day in order to stop the woman from ovulating and to cause her body to protect itself against fertilization and implantation of eggs.
Side Effects/Warnings
Women who have heart disease or who smoke may want to consider alternative forms of birth control. This medication increases the risk of heart attack or stroke, especially in women over 35 and women who smoke.
This medication does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases; it only protects women against pregnancy.
