Ethinyl Estradiol/Norgestimate (Oral)
Norgestimate is a birth control pill that women who are sexually active take if they don’t want to get pregnant. This medication interferes with the menstrual cycle by increasing the amount of female hormones in the body; the woman doesn’t ovulate while on this medication, reducing her chances of pregnancy.
Women who are over the age of 35 are at increased risk of heart attack or stroke while on this medication, especially if they smoke. Women should avoid smoking and talk to their doctor about other ways to protect their heart health while on birth control pills.
