Ethinyl estradiol and Desogestrel are often combined to make an oral contraceptive medication. This medication helps protect sexually active women against unwanted pregnancies. It works by increasing the estrogen levels in the body so that the woman stops ovulating and so that physical changes occur to stop eggs from becoming fertilized or attaching to the uterus wall.
Warnings/Side Effects
Women should not smoke while on this medication. Smoking greatly increases the risk of developing blood clots or having a heart attack or stroke. Smoking heavily is more risky, but smoking at all while on this medication can cause fatal cardiovascular problems.
