Etanercept

Etanercept is an injectable drug that is prescribed in response to certain autoimmune disorders. This drug helps reduce inflammation related to rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and chronic plaque psoriasis by blocking a substance in the body that causes inflammation.

Side Effects/Warnings

Patients who take this medication are prone to serious infections because the medication interferes with the autoimmune system. Patients may get tuberculosis and bacterial sepsis along with other infections. If infection occurs, the patient may need to stop the medication in addition to taking antibiotics. See your doctor if you have flu-like or cold-like symptoms to determine the best course of action.
