Estropipate (Oral, Vaginal)
Estropipate is a type of estrogen replacement therapy that women may undergo after going through menopause. This medication helps raise estrogen levels to where they were prior to menopause and to maintain proper estrogen levels. The medication may be taken as a daily pill or as a vaginal suppository.
Side Effects/Warnings
Women should take the lowest possible dose of this drug to relieve symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes. Taking this drug poses significant health risks, especially at higher doses. Women who take this medication risk:
- Breast cancer or endometrial cancer
- Blood clots, heart attacks and stroke–especially if they smoke
- Dementia and memory loss if over the age of 65
