Norgestimate is a hormonal medication that is often given in combination with Estradiol in order to raise estrogen levels and reduce menopause symptoms. This medication is given in pill form; patients take it at the same time every day in order to maintain their pre-menopausal hormone levels.
Women who take this medication should be prescribed the lowest effective dose in order to lower the risk of other serious health complications. Estradiol and Norgestimate can cause blood clots, heart attacks and strokes in women who take them, especially those over the age of 35 and those who smoke. This medication can also cause breast cancer and endometrial cancer. Women who are 65 years old or older may also experience memory loss or dementia as a result of taking this medication.
