Estradiol/Norethindrone Acetate(Oral)

Norethindrone Acetate is an oral form of estrogen replacement therapy. This drug is prescribed to menopausal women to help reduce symptoms of low estrogen such as hot flashes and mood swings. The medication helps raise estrogen levels and prevent against disease related to low estrogen.

Warnings/Side Effects

This medication increases women’s risk of developing blood clots or having heart attacks or strokes. Women should not smoke while on this medication for this reason, or should at least cut back on their smoking.

Patients who take this medication are also at risk of developing breast cancer or endometrial cancer and should get screened regularly for these diseases. Women over the age of 65 are also at risk for developing dementia while on this medication.
