Estradiol (Transdermal Spray)
Estradiol spray is used to help raise hormone levels in menopausal women. Women often lose estrogen after menopause, which can lead to osteoporosis as well as sexual dysfunction and depression. Women who use this spray breathe it in through the nostrils on a regular basis in order to increase their estrogen levels.
Side Effects/Warnings
Women who use this spray are at increased risk of endometrial cancer if they do not have a hysterectomy. This cancer affects the uterus lining; it can be fatal if it is not detected and treated early.
Women who are over the age of 65 who take this medication are at increased risk of:
- Stroke, especially if they smoke
- Dementia and memory problems
