Enalapril is a blood pressure medication. This medication helps lower blood pressure by inhibiting the production of an enzyme that causes blood vessels to become more narrow. By inhibiting this enzyme, the medication helps widen blood vessels, which can lower blood pressure.
Side Effects/Warnings
Pregnant women cannot take this medication. ACE inhibitor medications such as Enalapril have been shown to cause birth defects, including death of the fetus before birth or soon after birth.
There is a danger that patients on this medication will suffer from an extreme drop in blood pressure. Low blood pressure can be dangerous and requires immediate medical attention. Go to the emergency room if you feel extremely dizzy or drowsy while on this medication.
