Dronedarone

Dronedarone helps people who suffer from atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter lower their risk of a life-threatening heart problem. This medication is used to regulate heartbeat so that these conditions don’t cause the patient to have a heart attack or stroke.

Side Effects/Warnings

Patients who have severe heart failure are in danger of dying from their condition if they take this medication. Patients should not take the medication if they meet any of the following criteria:

• Shortness of breath while at rest
• Difficulty breathing after light exercise
• Hospitalization for heart failure within the past 30 days

Patients who have permanent atrial fibrillation are also at increased risk of dying from heart disease and should not take this medication. Doctors should monitor patients’ hearts while they are on this medication and discontinue it if the heart continues to beat irregularly while on the medication.
