Patients who suffer from heart arrhythmias may take Dofetilide. This medication relaxes the patient’s heart to stop it from beating as many times per minute or to regulate the heartbeat. Patients take the medication orally twice a day; they usually need to keep taking it after their heartbeat becomes regular.
Side Effects/Warnings
Although this medication is supposed to regulate heartbeat, it may make the heart beat more irregularly at first. Patients need to stay in the hospital for the first few days of this medication so that doctors can monitor their hearts and adjust the medication as needed.
This medication can cause flu-like symptoms such as fever, nausea, chills and vomiting. Patients should contact their doctors if these symptoms become severe.
