Clopidogrel

Clopidrogel helps patients who are at risk for heart attack or stroke lower their chances of having one of these problems. This medication is an antiplatelet drug; it helps dissolve blood clots in the arteries that contribute to strokes and heart attacks.

Warnings/Side Effects

Some patients are unable to metabolize Clopidrogel properly; these patients are at increased risk of heart attack or stroke instead of decreased risk if they take this medication. Doctors should give patients a blood test to determine whether they have this problem before prescribing the medication.

Patients should not take this medication if they are on any other blood thinners, as doing so increases the risk of bleeding, both internally and externally. Patients should not take aspirin while on this medication for the same reason.
