Chloroquine phosphate is prescribed to prevent and treat malaria in adults. Patients who are traveling to parts of the world where malaria is common usually take this medication before leaving the United States. It can also be taken multiple times a day to cure patients who are currently suffering from malaria.
Warnings/Side Effects
This medication can cause a multitude of side effects. Patients who take chloroquine phosphate might experience:
- Headaches
- Loss of appetite
- Upset stomach
- Diarrhea
- Mood swings
Chloroquine phosphate can cause serious vision problems. Discontinue the medication and contact your doctor immediately if you have difficulty seeing or reading after taking this medication.
