Certolizumab Pegol is an injectable drug that is used to treat Chron’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis. This drug reduces inflammation related to these diseases so that the patient suffers less pain and experiences less symptoms. This drug works by blocking TNF-alpha, a body chemical that contributes to inflammation.
Warnings/Side Effects.
This drug can compromise the patient’s immune system; as a result, patients may suffer from serious infections that the immune system would usually eliminate. This is especially true for patients who are on immunosuppressive drugs along with Certolizumab Pegol. Patients are at special risk of developing tuberculosis.
Children and adolescents who take Certolizumab Pegol are at risk of developing lymphoma and other types of cancer. For this reason, young people should not take this medication.
