Carbonyl iron is a dietary supplement that is prescribed to patients who suffer from anemia and other diseases related to low iron levels. This supplement is designed to raise iron levels in order to increase energy and promote general health.
Warnings/Side Effects
This medication is intended only for adults who have a severe iron deficiency. It’s vital to keep this medication out of the reach of children because they may suffer a fatal iron overdose if they take it. Adults who do not have chronically low iron levels should not take this medication. Similarly, women should not take the medication if they are pregnant or considering having children because it can be transmitted to the developing fetus and cause serious birth defects.
Some people may become nauseated while on this medication. Other side effects include diarrhea, constipation and stomach upset.
