Cabazitaxel

Cabzitaxel is used to treat prostate cancer in men who have not successfully overcome this type of cancer using less potent drugs. This medication interferes with cancer cells’ ability to grow and multiply so that cancer can be controlled and eradicated.

Warnings/Side Effects

Some patients develop hypersensitivity to this drug. Hypersensitivity symptoms include rashes, low blood pressure and breathing difficulties. If a patient develops these symptoms, he or she must discontinue use of this drug immediately as well as get medical treatment to reverse the symptoms.

Patients who take this drug are also prone to neutropenia–a condition in which the cell count of a particular type of white blood cell that kills and digests infectious invaders becomes abnormally low. Neutropenia can lead to serious and fatal infections. Patients on Cabzitaxel should have their blood tested regularly for neutropenia.
